I was so excited to be leaving Camp Biggest Loser and yet also scared beyond imagination. I had been living in a bubble for the last 6 months of my life, told where to be, what to wear, what to eat and how to do things, it was probably the most life changing surreal 6 months anyone could experience.
I had gone from 121.9kgs to just over 70kgs and faced many physical and emotional challenges and yet my biggest and toughest task lay before me. How would I keep losing weight to maybe win the title and most importantly stay fit and healthy long term after the “Finale”. I had 11 days left of the competition and they would prove to be the most difficult even though my very supportive family now surrounds me, who I have been away from for 6 months. I am home with all the outside temptations, food and alcohol the main ones, and also missing a vital part of our success in the house, Shannan and Michelle the trainers. What I did for those 11 days was to finish off the job I had started and it was made much easier because of the supportive staff at GymTonic.
I was welcomed home by family and friends and it would have been very easy to let myself go and have some well earnt “down time” socialising, but that will come I kept reminding myself I needed to finish it off and stay focused. Being the only woman in the final 4 fighting to win the title I had extra pressure which I had to try to put to the back of my mind, everyone wanted to see a female win the title, I put my blinkers on and just did what I could do. My Motto the whole show was “what will be will be”, so this meant I just had to know at the end of each day I had done my best.
Campbell bought me a spin bike to have at home and I had a cross trainer at home for endurance training because due to injuries I could not run or even walk for exercise. The show had organised me a Gym membership at GymTonic, I was very nervous the first day I went in but was quickly made to feel welcome by Glynis, Bernard and the lovely staff at the gym. Glynis promptly put me in for 1 hour PT sessions every day while I was home for the 11 days and I had unlimited access to all Gym facilities, I think with my training restrictions this was a hard task for the trainers at the gym but they were amazing and quite innovative. I needed to keep my diet tight and the advice I had been given was to just keep moving so that is what I did if I wasn’t on my bike or cross trainer, or cleaning the house or leisurely walking the dog with my girls, I was at GymTonic being trained hard and fast. It didn’t have to be high intensity just move, move and move some more.
From the first day I walked into Gym Tonic I felt welcome, it was a positive and supportive environment and that is what I needed to get through this hard time. Every time I walked into the gym, I was acknowledged and encouraged to keep going and give it my best, this made it easier to keep motivated and I wanted to do the staff proud as they had given me so much support. I went back to Sydney and did win the title and am forever grateful to Gym Tonic staff for everything.
Since returning home from Sydney 4 months ago I have been a regular attendee at the gym as they offer such a wide variety of PT training options as well as fantastic group classes, which I love participating in as they are friendly and a great way to meet people who also have an interest in living a healthy lifestyle. I love having such a good all round facility so close to home, I don’t need to go down the hill to a professional big name gym to keep fit and get a good workout. I now have 1-2 PT sessions a week, attend several group classes a week and have regular fitness assessments and appraisals, to keep me in check. Some days it is hard to keep motivated but I just think I will just go even if I just cruise on a bike for half an hour it is better than nothing, and once there I get motivated just watching others train.
Bernard and Glynis along with their fantastic staff run a very professional and supportive gym, which has made it easier for myself to maintain my weight loss and fitness level since returning home.
Set yourself a goal and have no regrets!!!
Lisa.
