EAT PROTEIN WITH EVERY MEAL

healthy eatingIf you would like to boost your energy, improve your health and change your body composition (less fat, more muscle), then you must ensure that you have a small portion of protein with each of your five meals during the day (breakfast, mid-morning, lunch, mid-afternoon and dinner).

Most peole have protein with their lunch and dinner meals but rarely have it with their brakfast, mid-morning and mid-afternoon meals.  Even if their food choices for these three meals are "healthy", i.e. fruit or yoghurt, without protein their body won't function as well as it could.  A lack of protein will force their body into negative nitrogen balance (otherwise known as catabolic state), whick results in a decreased metabolic rate and a loss of muscle.  It also means normal bodily functions may be somewhat impaired because they require amino acids (protein) every few hours in order to function properly.

A lack of protein may also impair energy levels because certain amino acids play crucial roles in energy metabolism.  Plus, protein may slow down the absorption rate of carbohdrates, which helps keep the blood glucose level stable and therefore energy levels high.  Protein has also been shown in research studies to have potent appetite-suppressing effects, which reduces cravings and tendency to over-eat.

The easiest way to have protein with every meal is to simply add a small portion to your existing meals.  For breakfast, add some LSA (Linseeds, Sunflower seeds and Almonds) to cereal or have an egg or two on a piece of toast.  For your mid-morning and/ or mid-afternon meals have a protien shake like, MultiSlim Deluxe Shake, 12 almonds with piece of fruit or 2 tablespoons of cottage cheese with 100mls of yoghurt.  Lunch may be a chicken and salad sandwich and dinner may be a portion  of lean meat with some vegetables.

If you're serious about looking good and feeling great then make an effort to have protein with each of your 5 meals during the day.
