Built on the sweat, passion and commitment of Glynis and Bernard Hoffmann, Gym Tonic opened at 81 Canning Road in Kalamunda 11 years ago and has grown into a community institution.
Glynis: “It has always been our vision to provide Kalamunda Shire with the best gym possible.”
Bernard: “A friendly and pleasant atmosphere is a must. Our approachable, enthusiastic team of lifestyle consultants give each member a personalised experience. The objective is always to genuinely improve their health and fitness, with a calculated approach to their diet and exercise.”
Gym Tonic had its beginnings when Glynis ran aerobic classes accompanied by her ghetto-blaster in the Kalamunda agricultural hall over 20 years ago.
Needing a more accommodating space, Glynis moved to a dance studio in Walliston. She met her husband Bernard and expanded the studio. “Step-up” and kids’ classes, a gym, and a great crèche soon attracted queues of people.
In May 2003 the couple purchased squash court premises at 81 Canning Road to realise their fitness ambition. Approx. a decade later – following the knocking out of walls, periodic refurbishments, many long hours and the installation of an extensive range of fitness equipment – the now modern, spacious gym has an even better crèche, over 30 group fitness classes, a team of 20, and close to 1,200 members.
The success of Gym Tonic can be attributed to the genuine, enthusiastic Lifestyle Consultants on the team, the ongoing loyalty of members and the friendly, welcoming environment.
