Starting Weight: 139.5kg

Goal Reached: 96kg

Results: Lost 43.5kg body fat

 

I joined Gym Tonic in February of this year. I mainly joined because my sister wanted to join and wanted a gym buddy. I was pretty hesitant at first simply because I wasn’t extremely confident and was a bit nervous of working out with all these other people around, but I got over that by realizing were all there to achieve the same thing and that is a fitter healthier ‘us’. I did try losing weight by myself earlier and had lost about 10 kgs, maybe more. I mean I was a 17 yr old wearing a tight size 48 pants, and 3xL shirts, and that’s not what I wanted for myself so I decided to make a change.
My first Weigh-In was with Jordin, and I weighed in at 139.5 kgs.

 

We both set a goal for me and that was to drop below the 100 kg mark, and I was determined to do so. It had been a while since I had been anywhere near 100kg, so I really wanted to achieve it. I started going to the gym 5 times a week for at least an hour, and importantly when I was first starting my best friend was the MyFitnessPal app on my phone. It’s really helpful to be able to take into consideration what you’re eating and how many calories you should be eating over one day. That was definitely what helped me lose weight to start with. So I stuck to my exercise, and was very careful re. what I did and didn’t eat, and by my next Weigh-In I had managed to lose 6 kgs. As soon as I saw that first weight loss I knew I was doing something right, so I continued on with my exercising and eating healthy and the weight kept falling off. As I was losing the weight I felt as though I was getting more energy and I was able to go to the gym for longer, and more often. I now go to the gym 7 times a week, and at a minimum of an 1hr 30min.
At my last Weigh-In I was able to reach my goal of sub-100kg on the scales! I now weigh 96kgs and I feel better and healthier than I have in a long time. One thing I did struggle with is the amount of clothes I have had to buy over this year. It seemed like every couple of weeks I was having to go shopping again simply because my clothes were getting too big for me so quickly. But to be honest it was also a good feeling: it’s great being able to go into any shop now and go “Yeah I like that shirt” or “I like those pants” and they have them in my size, which is an awesome feeling. I’m now wearing a size 36 pants and a medium to large shirt, so for me that’s a really big deal.
I have gone from a person that exercised because I knew I had to, into a person that exercises simply because I absolutely love it! I look forward to the end of work every day, because I know as soon as I’m finished I can get home and get ready to go to the gym. It’s weird how getting all hot and sweaty, and pulling some weird faces when you’re on your last set, can make someone feel so happy!
After seeing what I have been able to accomplish, and how much of a difference I’ve made in my life, it really is a credit to all the Trainers at the gym. Without their support and all of them showing such interest in my progress I can honestly say I would not of been able to do it without that encouragement. So I would like to say a big Thank You to all the Trainers at GymTonic Kalamunda – you guys are awesome. After seeing how much of a difference you guys have made in my life, it has made me think about what I want to do in the future. I have decided that once I have finished my Apprentiship I would like to do a Personal Training course, so I will be able to help someone the way you guys have helped me over this past year. (Jon would be a great PT as you’ve lived through the journey yourself! HR)
From Day One all of the staff were very welcoming, and went out of their way to help me reach my goals. The encouragement and support from two Trainers in particular: Jordin and Ben has meant a lot to me, and I will be forever grateful to them both.
I can say without hesitation that joining GymTonic Kalamunda has been the best decision of my life. And anyone who wants a better life, but they haven’t quite got that kick in the butt yet, please listen when I say: Don’t put it off, don’t say I will start tomorrow, or I’ll start on Monday, if you want to make a difference in your life, The time is now.
